I’m fully clothed
Covered from tip to toe
Yet I feel
Stark naked
Filthy to the bone
A piece of meat
As I cross the street
Many pairs of lust filled leering eyes
Travel up and down my body
Fixate on my bosom
They explicitly
Shamelessly
Whistle
Salivate
Pass lurid, crass comments
Make obscene gestures
Derive sadistic pleasure
From this pathetic act
Conveniently termed
Eve-teasing
If anything needs to be changed, it’s our MINDSET not our CLOTHES !

Eve-teasing is but a shameful reality of India. It is still rampant across the length and breath of the country. But there are heroes like Manoj Sharma, who laid down his life to save a woman from being eve-teased. You can read the complete story and as well as my tribute to this knight of the modern times, here: http://authorranjit.wordpress.com/2013/12/14/is-the-bad-better-than-the-good/

Just saw this, Sanah. Good one. But whether we repeat this or not, the violence against women continues unabated. So what should be, what can be done?

I have bookmarked and will share thoughts from your powerful and relevant blog – I applaud you for your courageous stand against India’s rape culture, a culture which unfortunately the USA is also infected.

What a well written post, and I can’t believe that in today’s modern world some men still think they are intrinsically better than any woman…..just because of their anatomy. Who do they think carried and brought them into the world.

Brilliant poem ~ horrifying statistics ~ never heard it called ‘eve teasing’ before ~ it is a disgusting and frightening way to treat women.

‘Eve-teasing’…I’ve never heard of that phrase before. But yes, leery eyes are disgusting. It’s always interesting to hear my male friends’ reactions when they watch the predatory actions of other men.

I agree, it is a disgusting trait of lots of men to ogle women in such a disgraceful and innapropriate manner and it needs to be stopped, men and women alike should be equals in everything and not be subject to such deparavity. The world is changing my friend but unfortunately it is just not quick enough :(
