Pin drop silence
The calm before the impending storm
Luck has never been in her favour
Even then her instincts told her to be braver
A deep-throated voice booms out her name
The dreaded moment has come
She hears the echo of her footsteps
As she clutches the mike with sweaty palms
And growing qualms
A hundred pairs of eyes gaze at her
Some intently
Others curiously
With a deep breath
She finally utters her first words
The tension built inside, evaporates
The reluctance to make eye-contact fades
The words seem to flow smoothly
And with certainty
It ends within minutes
Followed by thunderous applause
She walks away with her head held high
Relieved, this too had passed by.

Even though this specifically describes a speech, I can’t help but feel this way in my every day “blogging life”. Writing and sharing via the internet can be just as frightening as giving a speech. Thanks for this poem, it gave me a boost. :)

I always give up whatever I start. Seems like I don’t have enough patience. It scares me to think I might stop writing some day.

This is a very appropriate post for me today. I am in school and am currently in an oral communications class. Last night, the first night of claas, we had to give an impromtu speech. I did not turn out as well as the person in your poem. I became highly frustrated, embarassed, and nearly in tears. We were to speak for 2 minutes. I made it for 1:05. Hopefully in my next class I can recover from this mild embarrasment. Maybe.

Reverse psychology works for me. Always. This time, I was so nervous I could’ve literally peed my pants. Somehow, I got through the whole thing. Good luck, Cindi !
